And the Oscar Goes To...

Smyrna-Vinings Patch asked members of Epidemic Theatre to share their predictions for who will receive awards at tonight's 84th Annual Academy Awards.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony is tonight and Smyrna-Vinings Patch wants to know who you think should win Hollywood’s most coveted awards. To get the conversation started, we asked some members of Epidemic Theatre, Smyrna’s newest theatre company, to give us some of their Oscar predictions. Who better to make the call than real-life actors?

Bess McCreary, Epidemic Theatre’s artistic director of family programming, is known at Epidemic to root for the underdog. Her picks included “The Help” for best picture, George Clooney for best actor in a leading role for his performance in “The Descendants” and Viola Davis for best actress in a leading role for “The Help.” McCreary tagged Jonah Hill’s performance in “Moneyball” for best supporting actor, while she picked Melissa McCarthy for best supporting actress for her performance as Megan in “Bridesmaids.”

Epidemic Theatre’s artistic director of main stage performing made very different predictions. While Lee Sanders agreed with McCreary that Davis’s performance in “The Help” is Oscar-worthy, he predicts “The Artist” will win best picture and that Brad Pitt will win for best actor in a leading role for his performance in “Moneyball.” If Sanders’s prediction is true, it will be Pitt’s first Academy Award. For the best supporting actors category, Sanders picked Octavia Spencer in “The Help” and Christopher Plummer in “Beginners.”
