Canoe Introducing Song of the South Live Music Series

Find the digs, dives, bars and pubs with the most to offer in live music this weekend.

Strike up the band, it’s that time again as Smyrna-Vinings Patch gives you the low down on what’s hot on the music scene this weekend.

But before we highlight these local vibes, let’s celebrate the news that will soon begin its Song of the South live music series on April 13. Check out local artists, including Tim Brantley in the series’ debut, every Wednesday complete with wine and tasty aperitif.

Now onto this weekend as is the perfect place to be social with warm weather and the Men In Blues. These Atlanta favorites get down with all the blues you can use, and Creative Loafing’s second-best local cover band for 2010 serves up plenty of funky classic rock and roll, R&B, and country, too.

The Atlanta Boogie appears at Social Vinings on Saturday and both shows begin at 9 p.m.

Around the corner tonight, delivers fresh hot food with the cool stylings of UPC, a jam band covering tunes by artists such as the Grateful Dead.

If it’s , check out their saucy shrimp & grits combo while taking in some cozy tunes by Nelson Brownstone tonight and Jason Fulton on Saturday.

“Nelson and Jason are both great! I’d see them again and again,” said Barb Newton, a long time Marlow’s patron.

Both performances begin at 9:30 p.m., and then it’s Mick Wheeler on the patio on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Tonight, you’ll find St. Anthony's Pizzeria dishing out fresh piping hot pizza along with the good vibes of acoustic duo, Session Street. Or you might want to chow down on some of famous wings tonight while your ears rattle to the 70s, 80s and 90s rock covers from Men of Soul. The T&T Band gets the Red’s Timbers’ dance floor pumping on Saturday.

This is Garrison Plantation - Garrison Lakes - Lakefront Vista. I lived there when it was familyRead More owned. It went from sister to brother then sold. Changed name from Garrison Plantation (because it wasn't PC) (but no one thought about what a garrison was) to Garrison Lakes (there's only one lake) to Lakefront Vista (under new ownership.) It's a dump now. The layout and size of the apts. are great. Even the location is great. Still know some people there. But it went downhill.

I'd rather answer the question "How do you feel about Roswell Street Baptist Church?" MyRead More answer: can't stand it. This incident is just another in its long and bigoted history. During the anti gay lifestyle debacle it gave out copies of the 10 Commandments. That anti gay resolution drafted by Gordon Wysong and enacted by the Cobb Co. Commissioners cost the county an Olympic venue. Whenever I hear about that church I think of the OM who called the church's prominent members The Marietta Mafia!

Its sad, that young people who are gay and often struggle to accept themselves as they are, faceRead More such fury and rejection by a church that preaches love, compassion and forgiveness for most but not all. No wonder many young people, the vast majority of whom are or will be heterosexual find the church increasingly irrelevant in their lives with attitudes like this.
