Film Festival and More Coming to Lovett

Lovett students will be performing "Our Town" next Wednesday through Friday at the Hendrix-Chenault Theater.

We know many of our Patch readers have children at The Lovett School, but whether you’re part of the school’s family or not, there’s a lot going on across the river at the Paces Ferry Road school.

The 2011 Lovett High School Film Fest has attracted aspiring filmmakers from around the world. Some of the nearly 150 short films entered have come from as far away as India and Japan, and it’s not too late to enter. Entries will be accepted through Friday, April 7.

The films will premiere Saturday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the school’s Hendrix-Chenault Theater. Prizes will be awarded for best U.S. and international narrative, best music video and best documentary. Admission is free, and tickets may be picked up at the fine arts office.

Students interested in film and the arts can enroll in summer camp at Lovett. The school also offers academic and sports camps for the less artistically inclined kid. More details can be found here.

Lovett students will also be performing “Our Town” Wednesday, April 6, through Friday, April 8 at 7 p.m. at the Hendrix-Chenault Theater. Admission is $5 to the general public and free to students, parents and faculty.

Want to send your little one to Lovett? Saturday marks the first day parents can download a 2011-12 application.

Finally, little sprouts leaving the our Patch for college may be interested in the Delta Community Credit Union’s DCC“U” Scholarship.

The Delta Community Credit Union in Vinings will award three $5,000 scholarships to metro Atlanta high school seniors based on academic achievement, community involvement and an essay. This year DCCU has also introduced a fan-favorite scholarship based on a YouTube component.

Applications can be submitted through April 15 and scholarship winners will be announced May 16.
