Arts & Entertainment

It's a lovely day to support the arts

Wednesday's weather looks to be near perfect, and from great food to good music, there's plenty to enjoy in Smyrna-Vinings.

Not to be confused with “wasabi,” the horseradishy hot condiment commonly served with sushi and not for the faint of taste buds, Wabi Sabi is an emerging performance series by the Atlanta Ballet. Choreographed by emerging young artists, the innovative Wabi Sabi performs at beautiful outdoor venues, such as Atlanta Botanical Garden, to “bring art to the people.” How can dining out at the luscious help further their mission, you may ask?

On Wednesday night, South City Kitchen Vinings will host a special “Dine Out for Atlanta Ballet’s Wabi Sabi” evening during which they donate 20 percent of your check to help support this unique project. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., waltz into SCKV for your favorite fried green tomatoes, she-crab soup, shrimp and grits, low and slow pork barbecue, or anything else on their delectably Southern menu. Locals and regulars know you can’t go wrong at South City Kitchen.

Several of Wabi Sabi’s amazing dancers and talented choreographers will be in attendance at SCKV for you to meet and greet. For reservations, please call 770-435-0700 and be sure to say "I'm dining out for Wabi Sabi.”

Making Canoe all the more irresistible is the added incentive of their fall Song of the South music series at their outdoor River Bar Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Wednesday night, make the most of the glorious autumnal evening being serenaded by local chanteuse Sydney Eloise. Sydney’s lilting, acoustic and folk sound provides the perfect backdrop to riverside relaxation. Comfy perches are scattered about the scenic patio, so gather some friends, and enjoy a fresh appetizer, scrumptious dinner, signature river cocktail or other beverage. You’ll be glad you did.

And if it’s Wednesday, music is always in the air at as Smyrna’s hip java joint hosts its weekly Open Mic Night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. All musicians are invited to perform and admission is free. Bring your instrument or borrow one from another performer.

And though a lot of the music played at Rev is acoustic, don’t be afraid to crank up the dial. People can read the newspaper and play all the chess they want between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The hours of 8-10 p.m. are for music.
