Smyrna-Vinings Has the Beat this Weekend

Who says there’s no good live music in the Smyrna-Vinings area? We sure don’t because there's loads of local good vibes, and beginning today we’ll provide a weekly peek at who’s jamming where each weekend.

Our happy Smyrna-Vinings Patch in the metro Atlanta area has become a hot spot for live entertainment. The dance floor heats up rather warmly and some venues, while others serve up their tunes to folks simply chilling on the patio with a cold one. Whatever it is you like, we’ll try to shine the spotlight on it here.

First up is the Red's Timbers debut of 80s-styled rock band Sinner's Scantum tonight at the karaoke bar off Concord Road. The band, formerly known as Magik Waters, will be pounding some hard licks from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.

"Magik Waters lost their lead singer,’’ explained manager Nikki Carr. “They decided to hire a new singer, create a new name and this will be our first time hearing them with the new lead. I think people are excited to see them back."

Or start the weekend off at , where tonight The Rhythm Yard is making its first appearance upstairs at this local favorite. Expect lots of blues, Southern rock and jam band music Friday, and the contemporary country sounds of regular performer Kurt Thomas on Saturday. Both shows begin at 9 p.m.

Not far away off Cobb Parkway is , formally the River Room. It has a wide selection of newly stocked wines that can be served in 1-, 3- or 6-ounce pours. Several options come from bottles rarely offered by the glass.

And they also have live entertainment every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursdays, it’s acoustic and Latin flavored as John Valentino plays with Nico Hueso. Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for pop-rock music from local solo guitarists, including among others Jordan Hallquist and Dwight Raby.

For a social evening on the town, there may not be a better place than . Tonight Mark Wilson and Friends will be performing their melodic smooth jazz sounds followed by The Holiday Brothers on Saturday night. 

Just around the corner,  offers live music on the patio all weekend long. Tonight, it’s Nelson Brownstone from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Same time Saturday for Jason Fulton, while Mick Wheeler closes out Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  

It may not be your mom's pizza joint but Smyrna’s offers up fresh pizza with a sprinkle of pizzazz. Close Second String brings a soft rock vibe to the restaurant tonight, while Keith & Donny will perform on Saturday. Both sets begin at 6:30 p.m. 

and  in the Market Village share the booking of acoustic guitarist Francisco Vadal for the weekend, while just down Atlanta Road the Wayside Riders will be playing at  on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. 

And as usual, has a busy lineup with Kurt Thomas on stage tonight, McPherson Struts on Saturday and the weekly open mic and band auditions on Monday beginning at 9 p.m.
