Time to Get Your Groove on Smyrna-Vinings Style

Local music is popping all weekend long.

According to their facebook page, Jeff Hix and the Heretics are “on a worldwide tour of Vinings.” Like homing pigeons, they return often to the cozy where Hix and his Heretics work their magic on the regular crowd that knows and loves them with a passion. Starting from a rock and roll foundation, Hix layers on a groovy jam band-esque vibe. Accents of “soul, jelly roll, and jukin’ blues” round out the experience. Hix and the Heretics crank up the jam at their home perch at 9:30 both Friday and Saturday nights this weekend. No cover charge, but get there early if you want a seat. The tucked-away Attic Bar is as diminutive as its name.

Rockasaurus claims they are “licensed to party.” Legitimately licensed or practicing illegally, these guys know how to work a crowd. With their contagious mix of rock, classic rock, oldies, Motown/funk, Southern rock and country rock, Rockasaurus keeps people on the dance floor continuously. Rockasurus stomps into tonight at 8. Claiming they’ll be “breaking in a slew of new tunes,” local musicians known as A Fool’s Errand will also cater to the masses and play popular covers beginning at  8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

hosts notorious musician Nelson Brownstone tonight at 9:30. Brownstone effortlessly rolls out catchy covers from the past few decades. Acoustic musician Jason Fulton entertains the bar crowd Saturday night. No cover charge.

Talented singer/songwriter Brian Wiltsey showcases his beautiful acoustic sound in a duo format at tonight at 10. Wiltsey competently handles covers with flair and spices things up with a few of his originals, as well. No cover charge.

features the amusingly monikered band Odd Man Out both tonight and Saturday night this weekend. This band leans heavily on the classic rock genre, making them an awesome, crowd-pleasing good time. Music begins at 8 p.m. and there is no cover charge.

Smooth 70s crooners Yacht Rock Schooner sail back into port and dock at Dixie Tavern on Saturday night. A fanatical fan base wearing sea captains’ hats seem to trail in the Schooner’s wake like deadheads, err, “yachtheads.” When this schooner flips on its cruise control, you'll feel the salty wind in your hair as the smooth tunes take over. "Rich Girl" brings down the house. Cover charge is $7 and the yacht launches at about 10 p.m.

hosts The Covercats on tonight. Although they may be competing with intermittent trains, The Covercats will crank up their popular covers tunes on the patio beginning around 6:30 p.m. No cover charge.

As a perfect accompaniment to a sophisticated evening of sipping vino, offers mellow acoustic guitar by various musicians every Friday and Saturday night. Music is on the patio from 7 to 10 p.m.
