$100 million Cumberland development received approval

At the intersection of Galleria Parkway and Cumberland Boulevard, there's a new planned $100 million development that will be a 7-acre development containing 236 condos, 14 three-story townhomes, and a 10 story office building with 200,000 sq feet of Class A office space. This location is highway-visible and not too far South of the Cobb Performing Arts Center. It is just across the highway from the Two Overton Park development which will also most likely be mixed use.

The property is owned by Crescent Communities but Riverview Office LLC plans to run the development. This development received approval in September, but there isn't a lot of news about it. Completion of construction is planned for 2015. John Williams, one of the founders of the Cumberland CID and owner of Post Properties is seeking a tax incentive to help make the development more affordable.

This continues the trend of mixed-use and housing in Cumberland to make up for the shortage. Most of the housing around Cumberland is in Vinings, Smyrna, Marietta, East Cobb and Sandy Springs. The trend of increased housing construction in Cumberland itself is new to Cumberland but quickly taking hold, providing single professionals and couples working in Cumberland, and families in the case of townhomes, with high-quality communities to live in without having to commute too far. On top of that, such development will result in increased vibrancy in the Cumberland community and surrounding areas and increased demand for office and retail.
