Connect the Comet Rides to the Capitol

Connect the Comet is a dedicated metro Atlanta and Greater Georgia group working to finish the Silver Comet Trail by connecting it across the Chattahoochee River to Atlanta and the Atlanta BeltLine from its current stopping point in Smyrna.

Please join Connect the Comet in celebrating Georgia Rides to the Capitol on March 18th. This event, sponsored by Georgia Bikes, is dedicated to bringing bicycle issues to the Gold Dome. At the Capitol, there will be a short announcement about Connect the Comet from organizers of the event. Members will be on-hand to pass out information.

Connect the Comet is a dedicated metro Atlanta and Greater Georgia group working to finish the Silver Comet Trail by connecting it across the Chattahoochee River to Atlanta and the Atlanta BeltLine from its current stopping point in Smyrna, GA. The Silver Comet Trail, combined with the Chief Ladiga Trail in Alabama, is the longest stretch of paved trail in the United States.

There are six miles of railroad track that have yet to be converted into trail to complete this expanse, and two decades have passed since the earlier rail was converted to trail. The remaining rail is out-of-service but not yet abandoned. Completing the trail will provide both recreational and commuting options, and will help connect much of the greater metro region by bike trails. Connect the Comet is working to bring this rails-to-trails vision alive and has thousands of supporters.
