Congressman Scott to Host Jobs Fair

Among the companies scheduled to participate include Lockheed-Martin, Comcast Cable, Tyco International, FedEx, Dendreon, AT&T, Douglas County Fire/EMT, Sun Trust Bank, IBM, the FBI and the Atlanta Police Department.

More than 100 companies are scheduled to participate later this month in the 8th Annual 13th Congressional District Jobs Fair host by U.S. Rep. David Scott.

Scott has a off Concord Road and in January told Smyrna-Vinings Patch that his focused goal is to help lower the unemployment rate in his district and beyond.

The nation’s unemployment rate fell to 8.8 percent in March, its lowest level in two years. Not all the news is good, though as fewer than two-thirds of American adults are either working or looking for work. That marks the lowest participation rate in a quarter of a century.

“My primary emphasis is doing everything I can to get as many people employed as possible,’’ Scott said. “I’m focusing on that like a laser.’’

The event will take place on April 29 at the Georgia International Convention Center, located right off the I-85 and I-285 Camp Creek Parkway exits near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Employers looking to participate should register by April 22 and participation is free.

“We are eagerly working to reach out to as many employers, corporations, businesses in the area to get the information out in the Smyrna,’’ Scott said. “We want to bring people needing jobs together with those who have jobs available.’’
