Donors to Harris Family Will Get Refunds: PayPal

Fundraising efforts to support the Harris family have ceased in light of allegations that Cooper Harris' death in a hot car on June 18 was not an accident.

An online commerce business says it will refund clients who donated to the Harris family immediately following the hot car death of their 22-month-old son, Cooper.

PayPal announced on Friday that users of its platform that donated to the Harris family's YouCaring.com fundraiser following the June 18 death of Cooper Harris will be getting their money back.

Investigators now believe that Harris' father, Justin Ross Harris, intentionally left Cooper in a hot car to die. Harris, who worked for Home Depot at its corporate headquarters as a web developer, was terminated from his position Thursday.

YouCaring.com took down the Harris family's fundraiser after the allegations against Ross Harris surfaced, but a PayPal spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that only PayPal users will get their money back.

A YouCaring.com spokesperson told the AJC that although the company is aware of the sensitive manner of the situation, the company is not taking a side on the issue.Β

The fundraiser was removed to prevent it from becoming a distraction for YouCaring.com's other fundraisers, the spokesperson said.
