Finalist to Develop Braves Mixed-Use Project Bows Out

The Braves are looking to draw people year-round to the development, and not just during the 81 home games the team is focused on playing in the proposed $672 million Cobb County Atlanta Braves Stadium beginning in 2017.

Hoping to within the next three or weeks to pick a developer for the $400 million to $600 million mixed-use project and entertainment district that will be located around the new proposed Braves stadium in the Cumberland area, the team has learned that one of the two development team finalists has bowed out.

Atlanta Business Chronicle reported Thursday that the finalist, headed by Los Angeles-based sports and entertainment company American Enterprise Group, has removed itself from consideration.

The group also included Houston-based Hines Interest and Cincinnati’s North American Properties.

The decision leaves one development team— Atlanta developers Fuqua Development LLC, Pope & Land Enterprises Inc., Pollack Shores Real Estate Group, and Batson Cook Development Co. — still in the running.

In a statement, officials from the Major League Baseball organization said, "As we continue to make progress, we are even more optimistic and confident to bring both a world-class ballpark and a vibrant mixed-use development to Braves fans and the community. We have been dedicated to finding the best partners for the long term success of this project. ... We are committed to our detailed process as we evaluate potential developers for the mixed-use portion of this project and are excited about the progress we have made thus far.”

The Braves recently selected world-renowned architect The Jerde Partnership Inc. to design the project.
