Four New Restaurants Coming to Smyrna

Smyrna's Economic Development Department said it's unusual for four restaurants to apply for business licenses in one month.

Smyrna’s restaurant scene added four new players in March. Boca Mexican Grill, Sub Zero Yogurt Bar, Happy Belly Truck and Café DeCuir all applied for business licenses last month.

Jered Sigmon, City of Smyrna’s economic development coordinator, said that the city routinely receives 15 to 20 applications for commercial business licenses each month, but usually only one or two of the applications is for a restaurant.

“It’s nice that they’re filling some of the spaces that have been vacant in Smyrna for a while too,” he added.

Boca Mexican Grill will open for business Monday, April 9 at 1669 Spring Road. Sub Zero Yogurt Bar, located at 4480 South Cobb Drive Suite X, is open for business now and will hold a grand opening celebration soon. DeCuir Catering is adding a dine-in restaurant option called Café DeCuir at 4924 South Cobb Drive Suite M.

Happy Belly Truck serves up gourmet natural and organic foods from its lime green truck. Owner Terry Hall boasted that it’s the only food truck in the world equipped with an onboard Big Green Egg. Follow the Happy Belly Truck on Facebook and Twitter to see its menu and track it around town.

How do banks approve business plans and loans for Mexican restaurants when there are already one on just about every block? Madness.

For your information, the owners of Boca Mexican Grill also run the very successful Taverna Fiorentina in Vinings., and I wish them success.

I agree! I would love to see a seafood restaurant or one geared to steaks!

Not in Smyrna, but Bay Breeze in Mableton is a great fish restaurant. Its not upscale, just yummy fried/broiled/etc friends from the sea. And to your point, I would love a Flemings over here!

We are delighted with the response and support that Boca has received in our first week. We agree that there are many Mexican concepts out there, but being from San Francisco we just never found a truly authentic and fresh food concept. We hired a "Taquero Asadero" from Mexico to help develop our menu. Like Taverna Fiorentina, we strive to introduce truly authentic cuisine in our restaurants. We choose locations that are not too large, make them comfortable and even introduce great wines to complement the cuisine. These are concepts from 'the heart and soul'. Come in and try our ceviche (fish marinated in lime juice and cilantro), fish tacos, Mexican shrimp cocktail, even fried Calamari. For the weekend specials, we offer a whole red snapper with green sauce, and a seafood stew. We are focused on serving great food at reasonable prices. THANK YOU SMYRNA, we are very happy to be part of your community! Buen Provecho!

Boca did not receive any loans. This is the product of sweat equity and savings. The good ol' fashioned way, like our parents did it and we hope our children will do in the future. We hope you will patronize and support local owned businesses in Smyrna.
