Kroger Partners with American Cancer Society to Raise Awareness, Funds

Local grocery stores are asking for donations for Relay for Life "footprint" icons.

Kroger and the American Cancer Society (ACS) are partnering for an in-store fundraiser through Feb. 16—that raises awareness and funds to help fight cancer. During the two-week campaign, Kroger will urge its customers to donate to ACS by purchasing $1 Relay For Life “footprint” icons at Kroger checkouts.

“In the U.S., and across every community we serve, so many lives are affected by cancer,” says Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “We are honored to fight alongside the American Cancer Society as they help nearly 14 million cancer survivors and countless others continue to avoid the disease.”

All 213 stores in Kroger’s Atlanta Division—which includes locations in Georgia, South Carolina, Northern Alabama and Eastern Tennessee – will participate in Kroger’s “footprint” campaign, which is an extension of ACS’ signature fundraising event, Relay For Life.

Every Relay begins with cancer survivors taking the first lap around a track while other participants cheer them on. After dark, each Relay features a reverent luminary ceremony, with hundreds of candles lit in celebration of those who have survived cancer and in remembrance of those who have lost their battles. The event ends the next morning with closing ceremonies.
