Smyrna's Britton to become Cobb Chamber of Commerce chairman

Smyrna’s Tony Britton is set to become the chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 9. The 56-year-old Britton is senior vice president of Community & Southern Bank and has been involved with the chamber since 1983.

He will officially be voted in by the Chamber Board of Directors next month when the board will also be reduced from 23 executive board members to 12 of Britton’s choosing. Read more about Britton in today’s edition of The Marietta Daily Journal.

Congressman Tom Price, who represents Georgia’s 6th District, is the scheduled speaker at next week’s Vinings Business Association’s First Tuesday Luncheon.

Also, the winner of the VBA’s  2011 Vinings Business of the Year will be announced from the five finalists: Vinings Historic Preservation Society, Paces Holding/Vinings Jubilee, First Citizens Bank-Cumberland Boulevard branch, and Cobb County Public Safety/Vinings.

The luncheon will be held on Jan. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Social Vinings. The cost for members is $15 and $20 for non-members. VBA asks that attendees register 24 hours before attending.

Dan Oliver, president and CEO of the Smyrna-based , and Clark Hungerford, the company’s executive vice president, have been honored with a Lifetime Service Award from the Community Bankers Association of Georgia.

Oliver, one of the bank’s founders, has been in banking for 39 years while Hungerford has been in banking for 35. They were two of 25 bankers who have been in the banking industry for 30 years or more and were honored with the CBA award.

Charles Senic has been appointed general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Vinings. Prior to this position, he was the general manager of the Atlanta Midtown Residence Inn.

Senic is a hospitality veteran with extensive industry experience. He served as the executive chef at the Windsor-managed Marriott Renaissance Asheville Hotel in North Carolina, where his versatility also earned him roles as the Food and Beverage Director and the Director of Operations.

He also has served as executive chef at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Va.; the Gwinnett Place Marriott in Duluth, Ga.; and the Aberdeen Woods Conference Center in Peachtree City, Ga..

Northwestern Mutual recently honored Smyrna-based financial representative Kirk S. Wimberly with membership in its 2011 Forum group, recognizing an outstanding year of helping clients throughout the region achieve financial security.

Wimberly, affiliated with The Callaway Black Group located at 400 Interstate North Parkway, joins this distinguished group that includes only 5 percent of Northwestern Mutual’s more than 6,000 financial representatives.

Smyrna resident John Jakovenko recently joined Atlanta-based Morris, Manning & Martin as director of human resources. Before joining MMM, Jakovenko was the HR director for McCurdy & Candler. As a member of Junior Achievement of Georgia, Jakovenko also volunteers his time as an instructor at South Cobb High School.

Landvest Corp., a Wichita-based self-storage management company, has taken over management of Smyrna’s Iron Horse Self Storage in Smyrna. It is Landvest’s first location in the Southeast region of the country.

With the addition, Landvest will have more than 2.4 million square feet of storage space it manages across the country under the names of Security Self Storage, Sentinel Self Storage, Countryside Self Storage and now Iron Horse.
