Persian food has arrived; Caribbean cuisine and fresh produce and meats on the way.

Construction has begun of a free-standing Pollo Tropical restaurant in the Akers Mill shopping center at 2955 Cobb Parkway. This continues the South Florida-based chain's return to the state (a location opened in Lawrenceville this past summer) after three establishments closed in Georgia more than 15 years ago.

The chain specializes in Caribbean cuisine and features chicken on the grill, mojo pork, guava barbecue ribs, and more. The new establishment is being constructed adjacent to on land that previously was just parking space. As reported earlier, Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint will also be opening a new restaurant nearby.

Just down the hill at 3220 Cobb Parkway, Dez Persian Grill has been open "around a month or so" a manager told Patch on Thursday. Serving authentic Persian food, it’s open for lunch and dinner and specializes in kabobs, stews, soups and salads.

It’s still BYOB (bring your own beer...or wine) until the restaurant gets its alcohol pouring license. For more information, call 770-541-2334 or email dezpersiangrill@yahoo.com.

And also on this busy stretch of road, the Target at is undergoing some remodeling as the store intends to begin selling an expanded selection of fresh grocery offerings in late March.

According to the company website, the expanded food layout will feature fresh produce, baked goods, and fresh meats, including beef, chicken and pork. Signs in the store indicate the remodeling should be completed by March 25.
