Smyrna-Vinings News You Can Use

Wintry weather is on the way, and so is a public forum on Smyrna's new elementary school and maybe even a free car wash.

Tim Stultz, a member of the Cobb County Board of Education who represents the Smyrna area, will host a public forum next week on .

The forum will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the site of the new school was proposed by the Cobb County School District.

Property between Ward Street and Atlanta Road, immediately north end east of Campbell High School, has been identified for the new school, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013. The school was approved by voters three years ago as part of the school capital projects program funded by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

  • Well of course the Smyrna-Vinings area is expected to receive some snow here in the middle of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

No, the quick moving weather system expected to pass through Wednesday night-Thursday morning, won’t cripple the Metro Atlanta area as last month’s winter storm did. But the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area and any accumulation could lead to slick early morning road conditions.

No more than an inch of snow is expected to fall and temperatures will eclipse freezing by 11 a.m.  Still, if there are any delayed school or business openings locally, Smyrna-Vinings Patch will keep you informed.

A variety of maps, plans and other project information will be available for review beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a brief presentation, including an overview of the project, and then an open house where participants can review the TOD plans and provide input to the design team.

The open house will take place at the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce located at 240 Interstate North Parkway. For more info, contact Ms. Gail Bailey, Cumberland CID by email at gbailey@cumberlandcid.org or by phone at 770.859.2331.

  • You have until Friday to nominate your business or another business for the Cobb Chamber of Commerce 2011 Small Business of the Year. This annual competition recognizes Cobb’s top 25 small businesses and the winner will compete in the Georgia Small Business of the Year competition. Click here for more information.
  • If wintry weather does come overnight, then you’ll need a car wash and why not a fee one? With it’s on-going contest, the Atlanta Galleria is set to give away free car washes on Monday if it receives 200 “likes’’ on the Atlanta Galleria Facebook page by Sunday at midnight.

“The overall goal of our social media strategy, including this contest, is to create a sense of community among the people who work at Atlanta Galleria Office Park and to engage in a two-way conversation with our community,” explained Connie Engel, a partner at Childress Klein.

The free car washes would come via Galleria Classic Car Wash at the Atlanta Galleria.
