Snap! Smyrna Gym Suddenly Closes

Snap Fitness in Smyrna's Market Village closed this week, but other new businesses are opening across town.

While the Cumberland-area Borders continues its anticipated closing due to bankruptcy filing, more moving vans were parked outside of the location in Smyrna’s Market Village on Tuesday.

In an unannounced move to club members, the fitness center closed this week, removing all exercise equipment and having its phone number disconnected. A call to the company’s corporate office resulted in a Snap Fitness representative explaining that the gym just wasn’t generating enough business and that all memberships would be auto-terminated.

The Smyrna Snap Fitness was open for less than two years, but the Snap Fitness location in Vinings is thriving according to proprietor Michael Chapman of the independently owned gym.

“We welcome anyone from the Smyrna location to come and try out our gym,’’ Chapman said.

A new welcome mat has been placed outside the front door of several newly opened local businesses. Lucky 13 Pizzeria at 2517 Spring Road has been serving up delicious pizza pies and such for less than two months, and the online reviews have been solid so far.
