The Honeybee Opens Home and Garden Store

The Bird and The Bee is located just behind The Honeybee on Atlanta Road.

After almost three years in business, one of Smyrna’s popular women’s clothing boutiques is expanding into the home and garden realm with a new store called The Bird and The Bee.

The shop located just behind The Honeybee will offer the Annie Sloane chalkboard paint collection, live plants and other home décor items like lamps and end tables. Co-owner Lisa Rieves said she and her business partner Besty DiGiorgio wanted to open a home and garden store for quite some time.

“It’s been a dream of ours for a while,” she said. “We kind of knew that the building was going to be available for about a year. So it’s been in the works for a year.”

Observant fans of the Bee might have had a clue about Rieves and DiGiorgio’s plans when they first began selling Annie Sloane’s chalkboard paint at the clothing boutique.

“We got it in a year ago up at The Honeybee because it’s highly sought after and protected and we wanted to get it,” Rieves said. “So it was kind of random to bring it into the clothing shop, but we had a plan.”

Like The Honeybee, she said The Bird and The Bee features wares from local craftsmen. Rieves said that about 90 percent of the jewelry at The Honeybee is created by local artisans and she and DiGirogio are committed to stocking their home and garden store with local goods as well.

In addition to offering plants and home décor Rieves said they plan to hold Annie Sloane workshops at The Bird and the Bee. Workshop dates, times and prices can be found on The Bird and the Bee’s Facebook page.

Rieves said she and DiGiorgio are still trying to pin down a date for the shop’s grand opening, but may hold it in mid-September or Oct. 1—The Honeybee’s birthday.
