Uncle Maddio's coming to Vinings; Lime changes name

Small business happenings in Smyrna-Vinings including a new home for Mathnasium and what's going on around our Patch Thursday night.

A new made-to-order pizza chain is heading to Vinings.

In a press release Wednesday, Uncle Maddio’s Pizza Joint announced that it would be increasing its number of Atlanta stores from two to as many as a dozen in the next year. The two-year-old franchise has three current stores, one in Kentucky and the others here in Georgia in Woodstock and Toco Hills.

“We’re excited about building out Georgia with the addition of our Woodstock and Vinings locations because it implements our founding decision to grow from our hometown, outward,” said franchise founder Matt Andrew in the release. Andrew is one of the five founding members and former president of Moe’s Southwest Grill.

While a new restaurant is on the way, an established one has recently been forced to change its name. , located at 4600 West Village Way in Smyrna, is now known as Village Taqueria & Tequila Bar.

The name change was brought about because a Florida-based Mexican restaurant chain, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, has recently decided to open an establishment in Buckhead. After the Smyrna West Village eatery was served with a copyright infringement lawsuit from Lime Fresh, a name change was in order.

The “new’’ Village Taqueria celebrated its fourth anniversary in October and there has been no changes to ownership or management.

Village Taqueria will host a wine tasting and food drive to fight hunger on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. The $20 event will feature gourmet wines paired with complimentary appetizers from Executive Chef Oscar Mendivil’s kitchen. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Village Taqueria also encourages those who attend to bring a can or two of non-perishable food. The most needed items include: peanut butter, canned tuna, canned beans, canned soups, stews and pastas, 100 percent fruit juice, canned fruits and vegetables, macaroni and cheese dinners, and whole grain, low-sugar cereals.

Are these the apartments that were once called "Garrison Plantation"?
Lissa K. June 15, 2013 at 09:32 pm
This is Garrison Plantation - Garrison Lakes - Lakefront Vista. I lived there when it was familyRead More owned. It went from sister to brother then sold. Changed name from Garrison Plantation (because it wasn't PC) (but no one thought about what a garrison was) to Garrison Lakes (there's only one lake) to Lakefront Vista (under new ownership.) It's a dump now. The layout and size of the apts. are great. Even the location is great. Still know some people there. But it went downhill.

I'd rather answer the question "How do you feel about Roswell Street Baptist Church?" MyRead More answer: can't stand it. This incident is just another in its long and bigoted history. During the anti gay lifestyle debacle it gave out copies of the 10 Commandments. That anti gay resolution drafted by Gordon Wysong and enacted by the Cobb Co. Commissioners cost the county an Olympic venue. Whenever I hear about that church I think of the OM who called the church's prominent members The Marietta Mafia!

Its sad, that young people who are gay and often struggle to accept themselves as they are, faceRead More such fury and rejection by a church that preaches love, compassion and forgiveness for most but not all. No wonder many young people, the vast majority of whom are or will be heterosexual find the church increasingly irrelevant in their lives with attitudes like this.
