West Village Expansion Moving Along

Construction along I-285 is not expected to interfere with residents of West Village.

West Village
,which markets itself as a live, work and play community in unincorporated Cobb County is expanding with 188 new for-lease condos currently under construction.

According to Jack Haylett, senior vice president and director of real estate development with Branch Properties, the large, mixed-unit development was originally constructed in 2005 and opened in 2006. The new condos will be more modernized, he said, and feature stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and high ceilings. Upwards of 20 different floor plans will be offered, Haylett said.

“They will generally be about the same price point as what we have there now,” he said.

The entire project is expected to be complete in November, Haylett explained, with the first phase being done and ready for residents in September. Pre-leasing will begin in August, he said.

West Village is located at S. Atlanta Road and I-285. There was initial concern that off-ramp construction as part of I-285 development happening there in 2014 could interfere with residents.

As part of SPLOST improvements to the , the state asked the county to construct a modified diamond design instead of a cloverleaf at the interchange. In exchange, the state would cover construction costs. SPLOST dollars will pay for design costs and acquisition of right-of-way.

Haylett said that after conversations with Georgia DOT, he learned that they will not be acquiring any West Village property for the project and that they are even taking extra measures for the residents there.

“Georgia DOT is going to be building a sound barrier wall between that on-ramp onto 285 adjacent to our property,” Haylett said. “It is my understanding that there will not be any interference with the current phase we are developing.”

The West Village community includes a retail village, for-lease condominiums and town homes, and for-sale single-family homes, town-homes and condominiums.

Wow, how did you get that shot?

How did they get the zoning for that, when apartments were being denied all over the place, and the Vinings Main project was denied a switch to apartments?

@Matt: West Village is in unincorporated Cobb county (Smyrna, but not the city limits) and doesn't have a neighborhood association like Vinings. So, the market is able to build based on demand.

Are these the apartments that were once called "Garrison Plantation"?
Lissa K. June 15, 2013 at 09:32 pm
This is Garrison Plantation - Garrison Lakes - Lakefront Vista. I lived there when it was familyRead More owned. It went from sister to brother then sold. Changed name from Garrison Plantation (because it wasn't PC) (but no one thought about what a garrison was) to Garrison Lakes (there's only one lake) to Lakefront Vista (under new ownership.) It's a dump now. The layout and size of the apts. are great. Even the location is great. Still know some people there. But it went downhill.

I'd rather answer the question "How do you feel about Roswell Street Baptist Church?" MyRead More answer: can't stand it. This incident is just another in its long and bigoted history. During the anti gay lifestyle debacle it gave out copies of the 10 Commandments. That anti gay resolution drafted by Gordon Wysong and enacted by the Cobb Co. Commissioners cost the county an Olympic venue. Whenever I hear about that church I think of the OM who called the church's prominent members The Marietta Mafia!

Its sad, that young people who are gay and often struggle to accept themselves as they are, faceRead More such fury and rejection by a church that preaches love, compassion and forgiveness for most but not all. No wonder many young people, the vast majority of whom are or will be heterosexual find the church increasingly irrelevant in their lives with attitudes like this.
