How Can You Save Money On Your Health Care?

How Can You Save Money On Your Health Care?
Life is precious and miraculous, so why not make it amazing? I see more and more people taht walk in to my office asking for help after years unsuccessful physical therapy and spinal surgeries. We must stop and ask ourselves why is it that so many of our friends, family and loved ones go through extremely invasive and expensive surgeries? "Back pain is extremely common, and surgery often fails to relieve it" (Mayo Clinic). "In fact, back surgery is needed in only a small percentage of cases... Most back problems can be taken care of with nonsurgical treatments", as noted by the Mayo Clinic . We've learned that we are born as self healing and self regulating beings, so why is it that nearly 80% of us will experience back and/or neck pain? Well, "Trauma, aging, improper body mechanics, and normal wear and tear can all injure your spine. Damage to any part of your back or pressure on the nerves in your spine can cause back pain and other symptoms" (The Mayo Clinic) Chiropractic care offers so much more than just back pain relief,  however, it is an extremely effective and affordable way to prevent and care for these kind of conditions. A study done by the American Specialty Health Plans Inc. of San Diego found that:
  • Chiropractic care cut the cost of treating back pain by 28%.
  • Chiropractic care reduced hospitalizations among back pain patients by 41%.
  • Chiropractic care reduced back surgeries by 32%.
  • Chiropractic care reduced the cost of medical imaging, such as X-rays or MRIs, by 37%.

A few interesting facts about back pain:  (ACA)

  • Low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide, according to the Global Burden of Disease 2010.
  • One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.
  • Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work.  In fact, back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections.
  • Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic—meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer.
  • Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on back pain—and that’s just for the more easily identified costs.
  • Experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in our lives.
