This month, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA), both of whom have offices located here in the 30339 zip code, commemorated “Month of the Military Child,” a month-long celebration to recognize the sacrifices made by children of military families.
Chambliss, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, thanked all military families for their service to our country.
“When a parent serves our country in the military, their children serve as well. As we celebrate the Month of the Military Child, I am reminded of the selflessness and patriotism of all our military families. But more importantly, I am reminded of exactly what we ask these children to sacrifice for us everyday – their parents,” said Chambliss in a released statement. “I hope that everyone will join me this month in thanking these remarkable children for their sacrifice and their service to our nation.”
Isakson, who serves on the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, said the children of the men and women serving in the Armed Forces hold a special place in his heart.
"It is very important that we recognize them for their sacrifices and the challenges they must endure while growing up with one or more parents serving in the military," Isakson said. "I hope that Americans across the country will join me in honoring these children and thanking them for their service to our country."
“Month of the Military Child” has been observed each April since 1986. Currently, more than 1.8 million American children under 18 years of age have at least one parent serving in the military. In Georgia, more than 89,000 military children have one or both parents deployed according to the Department of Defense.
