Cobb and Smyrna Firefighters Contain Smyrna Brushfire

An acre-widebrushfire, likely started by a cigarette, is being extinguished by Cobb and Smyrna firefighters.

At 12:41 p.m., Cobb fire units responded to a brushfire near I-285 south, just south of South Cobb Drive. The fire was about an acre in size and two Cobb County fire units and one Smyrna fire unit are working to completely extinguish it.

Lt. Dan Dupree of Cobb Fire said it has been contained, β€œthey are just hitting the remaining hot spots so it doesn’t flare back up with it being so dry.”

He said the fire was most likely started by a cigarette thrown out onto the highway.
