Bar Sign Down, Protest Quiet

Even though an anti-Obama message has been taken down from a Marietta bar sign, people still showed up this weekend to protest.

It was a peaceful event Saturday at Mulligan’s Food and Spirits with about 20 protesters—organized by Marietta-based New Order National Human Rights Organization Inc.—showing up, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.

A sign, which read “I Heard The White House Smelled Like Collard Greens And Fried Chicken,” was just the latest controversial statement at the the bar on Park Street Southeast in Marietta.

New Regulations Make Business a Piece of Cake

Georgia residents can now legally sell goods they bake in their homes, thanks to the efforts of a Cobb County woman.

New regulations allowing home businesses went into effect this month, just over a year after Sara Rylander started her venture with a petition and a Facebook page. 

"It feels awesome," said Rylander, a formerKennesaw resident who now lives in Acworth. "In the past year, I've heard so many great stories from other bakers and received so many notes of appreciation. It's really been amazing."

SW Atlanta Morrow Lane Murder Suspect Arrested

Joseph Smith will be in court today to hear the formal charges against him.  He is suspected in killing his new wife, Shatikey Griffin, 34, and her daughter Demiya Griffin, 12, who were both found deceased in the home on Morrow Lane.  Demiya Griffin was a KIPPS WAYS Academy student, and the school plans to hold a candlelight vigil on Monday evening for their beloved student.  Police officers also plan to charge Smith for the murder of Loveitt Wallace's, 36, at Wellesley Inn in East Point that occurred earlier Sunday morning.

According to a CBS Atlanta report, the suspect called his baby's mother shortly after the murders and said "he messed up," and wanted to see his daughter before he went to jail.

Atlanta’s Oldest Black Barber Shop Closes

Silver Moon Barber Shop, thought to be Atlanta’s oldest black barber shop, closed its doors on Friday, 11Alive reported.

The Auburn Avenue store had been open for 108 years, and its sign claimed to be “the oldest black shop in Atlanta.” Its owner John Harris is now 85. He told 11Alive that he is just ready to retire.
