Former Paulding Teacher Indicted on Child Porn Charges

A former schoolteacher at New Georgia Elementary in Villa Rica was indicted last week for receipt and possession of child pornography.

Joseph Monroe Wilson, 43, formerly of Dallas but now residing in Spartanburg, S.C., was indicted on the charges Tuesday and arrested Thursday, U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates announced via a news release today. U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda Walker earlier today set a $150,000 corporate surety bond with conditions that include home detention, GPS monitoring and a requirement that Wilson stay away from children.

“This defendant did not simply seek out inappropriate images of children, but as a teacher put himself in a position of trust and authority with respect to children of that same age and went so far as to attempt to adopt a young child,” Yates said in the release. “We will do everything in our power to prevent predators from having contact with potential victims in our community.”

Camera Discovered in East Cobb Salon

 are continuing their investigation into the placement of a recording device in a private room of an East Cobb salon.

The camera was discovered in a light in Suite 110 of the Salon Avenue Suites on Sandy Plains Road near East Piedmont Road, according to Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce. According to 11 Alive News, women typically received Brazilian wax treatments within the suite in question.

It is currently not know where the images the camera may have captured have been stored, as it appears the owner of the camera successfully made off with the data before the police arrives.

Ex-Officer Released After 18 Months in Prison for Fellow Officer’s Death

Kenneth Reda of Acworth, the former Cobb police sergeant convicted in connection with the drowning death of a fellow officer, is being released from prison today after serving 18 months of his sentence, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

On Jan. 28, 2011,  for lying to the law enforcement, second-degree homicide by vessel, and violation of office by a public officer in the death of his best friend Brent Stephens on Lake Allatoona.

Authorities believe Reda’s boat , when he, Stephens and Reda's mistress Shelley Powell were returning home from dinner at a lakeside restaurant.

Armed Robbery of Juveniles at Piedmont Park

According to the Atlanta Police Department, two men were arrested on armed robbery charges overnight in midtown after allegedly being a part of a larger group that had robbed a pair of juveniles in nearby Piedmont Park.

APD Zone 5 officers responded to a pedestrian robbery call at the park around 11:45 p.m. After receiving a description of the suspects and a general direction they had fled in, a subsequent canvass of “the midtown neighborhood” resulted in two of the five suspects being apprehended.

Target’s Gay Wedding Registry Ad Applauded

Target, maybe as a way to gain support from customers or to erase past offenses, is being praised by several leaders of the LGBT community for its recent gay marriage ad, which shows two men holding hands with the words "Be Yourself, Together." It's an advertisement for Target's wedding registry.

Among those to applaud Target's effort wasDavid Badash of The New Civil Rights Movement, who called the ad, which comes on the heels of the company's line of LGBT Pride T-shirts as well as same-sex wedding cards, "kinda awesome."

The Pride T-shirts, however, are sold online only and not in stores.
