HIMSS Analytics Honors Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna with Stage 7 Award

CHICAGO (June 18, 2013) - HIMSS Analytics announced that Emory-Adventist Hospital, located in Smyrna, Ga., has received the acute care Stage 7 award. The award represents attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model℠ (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems.

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers and a current of former chief medical information officer to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.

The hospital will be recognized at the 2014 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 24-26, 2014, in Orlando, Fla. As of May 31, 2013, 115 U.S. hospitals, or 2.1 percent, of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Database, have received the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award.

“Patient safety is Emory-Adventist Hospital’s highest priority.  This designation affirms that we are fully using information technology to protect our patients through our use of electronic medical records. Our hospital staff has worked hard to achieve this designation, but we could not have accomplished this without the cooperation of our physicians and the support from Adventist Health System Information Services team. We are proud to join the elite few who have achieved HIMMS Stage 7 Award,” said Dennis Kiley, president and CEO of Emory-Adventist Hospital.

Emory-Adventist Hospital is operated by Adventist Health System as a joint venture with Emory Healthcare.  It is the fourth hospital in the Adventist Health System to receive the Stage 7 award.
