The $500,000 mistake in Smyrna

Wasting local tax dollars on the table.

The city of Smyrna is about to embark on paying for a fitness center for its employees at a cost of half a million dollars to you and I.  I believe this is an egregious waste of local tax dollars.  There is currently support by at least 4 council members and the mayor for this ridiculous waste of our money.

The current proposal pushed by our city administrator, Eric Taylor, is ready to be shoved down our throats.  They want to spend $4200 per month for 5 years on a new fitness center for the city employees.  Add in additional renovations, due to they are not using the former gym that went out of business, and monthly overhead ($4800) this stands to cost us over $500,000 for a five year lease.  This is pure insanity.

I have a proposal, it costs $5 a month per person.  The community center has a facility open to every citizen in Smyrna with a gym in walking distance from the one they are proposing.  If we have to comp. city employees, I can live with that. The current drop out rate of people who enter the gym is 67%, so please let your counselman know that is a colossal waste of our money.
