Owner of Winning Smyrna Mega Millions Ticket Comes Forward

By matching the first five numbers, a Mableton mom walks away with $1 million.

A 45-year-old Mableton mother looks forward to taking care of her family after claiming the prize from the winning Mega Millions ticket she purchased in Smyrna last month.

Denise Ford's Quik Pick ticket for the Dec. 27 drawing was purchased at the Kroger on Atlanta Road in Smyrna. The winning numbers for that drawing were 4-15-35-48-49 with a Mega Ball of 11. Ford's ticket matched the first five numbers of the winning draw, earning her $1 million.

Ford said she had no idea that her ticket was a winner until it was posted online. At first, Ford said she was shocked at the news, but quickly became excited.

“I jumped up and down and started crying,” Ford was quoted as saying in a Georgia Lottery press release.

Ford claimed her winnings last Thursday, and says she plans to fund a trust for her family with the prize money.
