Young Smyrna Woman Needs Help to Fulfill Christmas Wish

All Kaia Minako wants for Christmas is to spend time with her dad in California.

Going home for the holidays is a given for millions of people in the United States. Spending precious time with family and loved ones is often the highlight of the Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa season.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the financial means to make their dream homecoming possible.

Kaia Minako, a high school senior who has lived in Smyrna for the last three years, is desperate to get back to California to see her father for Christmas. While Minako was in Georgia, her father underwent a tough divorce and is suffering financial and emotional distress.

Minako has started a GoFundMe campaign that she hopes will raise the $400 she needs to go back to California for Christmas to see her dad.

Patch, which has partnered with GoFundMe, is bringing more attention to hyperlocal fundraising campaigns that need a shot in the arm to come to fruition.

"[A]ll i want is to see my dad for the holidays. I appreciate all the help and i still need it," Minako wrote in her most recent update on her GoFundMe page.

Minako has raised $145 of the $400 she needs to make her trip home a reality. I bet Smyrna-Vinings Patch readers can make her dream come true by the end of the week!
