Community Mourns Loss of E.W. 'Ernie' Keappler

Members of the Smyrna Rotary Club mourn the loss of fellow Rotarian Ernie Keappler.

In Memoriam: E.W. "Ernie" Keappler, age 90, has passed away. Ernie was a long-time member of Smyrna Rotary and a former member of East Point Rotary. A Rotarian for more than 50 years, Ernie is remembered for his dedication to and support of the Georgia Rotary Student Program. He is remembered in Smyrna for his efforts to beautify the community and school campuses by planting hundreds of trees. 

Ernie was a Captain at Eastern Air Lines and a developer of commercial and residential properties and apartment communities. He was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a Will Watt Fellow. The "Ernie Keappler Scholarship" is awarded each year by the Rotary Club of Smyrna to a deserving student. A son, Bill Keappler, is a Smyrna Rotarian and a 2007 recipient of the Frank Bentley Leadership Award.
