Funeral for Fallen Cobb Soldier Saturday

Sergeant First Class Omar Forde was killed in Afghanistan earlier this month.

A Cobb County soldier who was killed in action in Afghanistan earlier this month will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery on Saturday.

28-year-old Sergeant First Class Omar Forde, a 2004 graduate of Kennesaw Mountain High School, was one of six soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Zabul Province on Dec. 17.

Forde played for the Mustangs football team during his time at the high school, and according to an obituary in theΒ Marietta Daily Journal,Β he married his high school sweetheart Megan in 2006. He leaves behind two sons, five-year-old Ayden and 18-month-old Devery.

Forde's funeral service will be held at Kennesaw's Northstar Church. Following the service, The funeral procession will begin at noon at Blue Springs Road, then hit Highway 41, Red Top Mountain Road, I-75 North, and Georgia 20. Forde's final resting place will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
