CSX Train & Smyrna

Wanting to hear from folks about their opinions, thoughts etc. on the CSX train and it's impact on smyrna's residential communities.

I am posing this question because ever since the campbell road bridge was re-built and re-designed to accommodate both code as well as CSX doubling their loads by piggy backing- the noise increase in our area: Argyle Estates- is horrendous. We have measured the decibel rating- from 300 feet away it reaches 97. from 200 feet away it reaches over 100. 90 is considered unhealthy. We have folks living just 20-30 feet from the railroad tracks with none or very little buffer.

this is really having an immediate negative impact on the area of argyle estates that have to hear the raw train screech at all hours of the day and night- and will have impact on those a few blocks away from the direct view of the CSX.

CSX is turning a blind eye. It seems our councilman too- no help. everyone seems to be afraid of CSX.

meanwhile the effects this is having on the adject houses is not pretty- and will have a ripple affect on the surrounding house and their values.

we currently have 2 empty houses and some high turn over rentals = not good.

CSX seems to have full cart blanch- and they should not. It seems corporation and government is taking precedent over community.

I want to if an impact study was done prior to raising the bridge- on the effect of double loading the trains? If there was not one done why?

are the students and faculty of Campbell Middle School being affected? It must disrupt football practice.

I realize the tracks have been there since before the civil war- but the type, amount, speed and weight of what is going by has changed- and there is not any protection for our residential neighborhood.

regulations on CSX need to be stricter. there needs to be respect for the residential homes here- via a sound wall, slower trains and a limit on weight (just like trucks). why is the train different.

attached is a video of the train...
