Moms Talk: Fourth of July Plans

With the holiday weekend coming up, our question this week has to do with suggestions for family fun

Fourth of July ranks as one of the all-time great American holidays, particularly for families. To benefit some of the newer residents in town, the question this week has to do with your suggestions for best Fourth of July events for families.

Do you go to watch fireworks in another community or does your neighborhood band together to put on its own display? Or do you skip fireworks altogether in favor of some other activity?

We lived in Westport when my three children were growing up. Westport has a spectacular fireworks display at Compo Beach for the 4th that my whole family looked forward to each year. We would pack up the car with lunch, dinner, blankets, towels and lots of games (for when the kids tired of the playground and beach) and make a day of it. My two sons, who both live in the area, have now continued the tradition with their own families.

We love fireworks. Usually, we're in town for the 4th and head over to watch the Danbury mall fireworks from the hill up behind the airport. Great fun! But the best we've seen is the NYC display. Absolutely huge and beautiful on the floats in the river.

We went to Jennings Beach in Fairfield last year & plan to go there again this year with some friends & their families..We brought chairs for us and the kids, & set up a great spot to see the fireworks...It gets crowded but it is worth it.

On Newtown Patch's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/NewtownPatch), Nancy says "West Point! Concert AND fireworks!!!"
