Update: Report of Armed Man at School a Hoax

Lindley Middle School in Mableton has resumed normal operations after an investigation into the report of an armed man.

Cobb County Schools officials just before noon Friday announced that reports of an intruder on the campus of Lindley Middle School were false.

The Mableton school was placed under lockdown just after 10 a.m., Cobb Schools Spokesman Doug Goodwin reported. School district officials and Cobb Police investigated and searched the school after an armed man was reported on campus, but found nothing to validate the report.

The school is now operating on its regular schedule.

Cobb Police late Friday morning reported that all available officers were activated and dispatched to Lindley Middle after receiving reports of a suspicious person who was armed.

Officers as of 11:10 a.m. were checking all classrooms and rooms inside the school to locate an actual perpetrator or threat.

No students have been reported injured, police said.

Students are not being released at this time, and parents coming to the school are being asked to go to Mt. Harmony Baptist Church at 561 Veterans Memorial Highway.

Police are searching Lindley Middle School in Mableton for a man with a knife, WSB TV reports.

According to the TV station, the school is on lockdown, and officers are going to classrooms to search for the man.

No injuries have been reported, according to the TV station.
