5 feet tall? Were they kids?

This apartment complex is not in Smyrna, nor is it serviced by the Smyrna Police department. Why not do a little research and report these incidents properly ? As it is unincorporated Cobb County. When you see that an incident is being handled by Cobb police, then that tells you right away that it was not in Smyrna. Incidents that happen in Smyrna are handled by Smyrna. Incidents that happen inside the city of Marietta are handled by Marietta police. Incidents outside of the cities are handled by Cobb. This is the first clue.

It's address is Maner Terrace Smyrna GA 30080. Even if it's unincorporated Smyrna that's close enough. Or too close. Smyrna residents need to know.
Bob December 02, 2012 at 04:28 AM
Exactly. It is still Smyrna, just not the "city" of Smyrna...When do you ever read a story that says this happened in "unincorporated Cobb" and not tell you what part of Cobb it's in??!

While technically it is in the postal address system as Smyrna this is on the other side of I-285 off S. Cobb Dr. Smyrna does not cross I-285 anywhere and while "by the crow " this is close to Smyrna, nobody who "really" lives in Smyrna would consider this to be "Smyrna". A more accurate report would say near "Smyrna in Cobb County"..... It makes sense to post it here but not to call it Smyrna.

An armed robbery occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex and you're quibbling over whether it was within Smyrna city limits or not. No wonder Smyrna's in such bad shape. Will I have to define "bad shape" ?
Pat December 02, 2012 at 01:45 PM
It is in smyrna. I use to live there so move on to the real issue of men running around out there with a semi automatic robbing people.
Inside-Out December 02, 2012 at 01:48 PM
No one is quibbling over anything. I am stating a fact. Quite a few take the misinformation they read on here and repeat it as factual, when nothing to could be more false. Some are very quick to blame these occurences on Smyrna and its government to which they have no control over or have no input over. These incidents should go to show others the benefits of living inside the city limits of Smyrna. What is the actual response time for a fire department response in Smyrna ? I guess that would depend on which fire department you are talking about, inside the City of Smyrna or outside using Cobb County. I have read on here about the waste of money and resources on the street lights and road widening on Atlanta road, when in fact that was a Cobb County project. To report a story as factual it should be listed as being near Smyrna. This would clarify things to a lot of people and help in the spreading of the word. Maybe you could look up the words " Ignorant" and "misinformed" while you are attempting to become educated. " Smyrna is in such bad shape", which one are you talking about ? Inside or outside of the city limits ?

My partner was the victim of an armed robbery within Smyrna's city limits. It ocurred in the middle of the day. Luckily all the guy got was cash money that was thrown on the ground. There are no benefits of living inside the city limits of Smyrna. All we've got is El Duce and the Clown Council.
MA Evans December 02, 2012 at 02:46 PM
The circus lights were paid through SPLOST funds. Cobb Co. collects the tax and doles it out to the six Cobb cities. That is the extent of the county's involvement. It has no say in how the money is spent or what the projects are. The awful congested arrangement of the $758,000 dollars worth of streetlights erected along Atlanta Rd. in front of the Smyrna government complex was the brainchild of the city and no outside government affiliate.

Nobody thinks it's odd that they were so short? Is it possible they were kids? That would be even worse, I think.

"No benefits to living in the city of Smyrna"? Did your partner not have a police officer respond within minutes of reporting the robbery? Ask people who live in Atlanta who have been robbed what the police response is like. The lights were the product of a vote made by the citizens in support of specific projects. Namely the revision of the Atlanta road corridor. So go back to the drawing board and make up some more controversy.

So what do you consider "inside" Smyrna City Limits? I've lived here (IN SMRYNA) 8 yrs and have yet to see a sign that says Smyrna City Limits...

Their height stood out to me as well. I would assume at that height that they would be kids and if that's true - it makes the story even worse.

An election held by Cobb County and managed by Cobb County. Dooyu truely think that the City of Smyrna designed the Atlanta road project ? The media reports something as being in Smyrna so people assume that it was, when nothing could be further from the truth. Case in point the mother that starved her child to death recently. The article even mentions previous police calls at the residence. I started digging into the story only to discover that this was outside of Smyrna and the city of Smyrna Police did not handle the calls, Cobb did. The recent killing of the dog by the police was reported to have happened in Smyrna. A little research revealed that the incident happened miles outside of Smyrna and it was in fact the Cobb Police that killed the animal. It only takes a couple of minutes to research these incidents. Smyrna has its' own incidents to report. They have there own crimes to handle, and they do.

Sorry to hear about your partner. The Mayor should have stopped that crime before it happened. He must have been busy that day. As far as City limits signs go, you should really open your eyes. At the major entrances their are huge green and red signs at each as well as smaller black and white ones on sidestreets. If you see any that are missing you should call the City of Smyrna at (770) 434-6600.

In defense of the media if they were to report it as happening in Cobb County people would be asking "where in Cobb?"

I own an investment property in Atlanta and I can tell you it's night and day. Smyrna police are much better and much more helpful.
Brian December 03, 2012 at 07:01 AM
I own an investment property in Atlanta, and I can tell you from experience that Smyrna police are much better at responding than Atlanta. So, I don't know what you're complaining about. You shouldn't look a gift-horse in the mouth.
Brian December 03, 2012 at 07:03 AM
How do we get the media to retract some of these stories as happening in Smyrna? I think it gives a bad impression of Smyrna.
Brian December 03, 2012 at 07:04 AM
Cobb County zip code X. Cobb County X apartments.
Lissa M. December 04, 2012 at 02:46 PM
The address of the lady that hurt her daughter is Smyrna 30082, but it is clearly in Mableton. The school zone is Floyd Middle & South Cobb High. Many things are reportedly in Smyrna, but are clearly outside of the city limits, or what is considered by local residents to be Smyrna. As far as living in Smyrna for 8 years & not seeing a city limit sign? Seriously? There is a huge one on Atlanta Rd. at Ridge Rd. where Tires Plus is. It's been there for many years! You should really get out more often!
MA Evans December 04, 2012 at 02:55 PM
Brian. Smyrna's had a bad impression for years. It's just living up to it. Don't blame the media. Blame Smyrna's poor leadership.

My husband was robbed at gun point by two black males on Saturday night in the parking lot of the Glen Park apartments by the 100 building. If anyone has any information please contact Det. Tucker at the Smyrna police department.
