Athens Man Killed in Cobb Crash

The motorist died after an accident on a ramp between Interstates 75 and 285 on Thursday.

Cobb Police said an Athens man died on Friday after suffering injuries in an accident on a ramp connecting Interstates 75 and 285. 

Hayes R. Fairchild, 31, was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was transported by ambulance after the crash, Cobb Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said in a press release. 

He said that on Thursday morning, Fairchild lost control of his silver 2001 Land Rover Discovery as he was negotiating a ramp between I-75 north to I-285 east.

The vehicle struck a retaining wall, and Pierce said that police investigators attributed the accident to excessive speeding.

Cobb police are asking anyone with further information about the crash to call 770-499-3987.
