Canton Man Picks Up Teen in Smyrna

He was arrested Friday on a charge of interference with custody.

Smyrna police have arrested a Canton man who allegedly drove to a residence in the 600 block of San Fernando Drive SE on Wednesday, picked up a 14-year-old girl, took her to his residence in Cherokee County and kept her there against her mother's wishes.

When the girl's mother contacted Manuel Rodriguez and asked him to bring the girl back to Smyrna, "said accused told her that he would possibly bring ... child back home on Sunday," police said.

Rodriguez was arrested Friday on a charge of interference with custody. He remains in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bond.
