As Cobb County commissioners continue to accelerate plans to raise taxes to build a new Atlanta Braves stadium in the Cumberland Mall area, some members of the Cobb County Police Department are wondering why they’re being left behind when it comes to county support and funds.

As WSB-TV reports in the attached video, the commission approved Tuesday to add 40 new police officers to the force in addition to the slightly more than 600 who are already authorized.

More than 100 Cobb police officers attended the Tuesday commission meeting to express their displeasure and frustration over equipment and pay, but they didn’t stay around to see the board approve three new taxes that will help finance the Braves’ proposed new $672 million stadium scheduled to open for the 2017 season.

A recent study of Cobb officers depicted a department with low morale, with many looking to leave for other departments that offer better pay and benefits.

With Commissioner Lisa Cupid opposing, the commission voted 4-1 on Tuesday to create three new taxes to help build the proposed new ballpark. Read more from The Marietta Daily Journal on those new taxes.

Cobb County has created a special Web page to keep residents informed on progress with the Braves stadium project. This site includes answers to frequently asked questions, copies of agreements, information on changes to county codes related to the project, plans for preparing for the new stadium and more.
