Any anonymous tip has led Cobb police to make an arrest in connection with a deadly hit-and-run accident on westbound I-285 near Cobb Parkway last month.

According to Officer Mike Bowman, on Tuesday investigators received an anonymous tip from Crime Stoppers Atlanta regarding the hit-and-run suspect and vehicle. Due to the tip received, investigators were able to locate a black 2004 Saturn Vue with damage consistent with a high-speed pedestrian collision on May 18.Β

Investigators have arrested and charged 34-year-old John Hendrix Riddle, of Mableton, with felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death and driving with a suspended license.

Riddle is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.

According to investigators, on the date in question at approximately 11:25 p.m., a male driver of a black 2008 Nissan Versa was traveling westbound on I-285 when he came to a stop in the gore after running out of gas. While the car was sitting between the right westbound travel lane and the ramp from northbound I-75 to westbound I-285, a male occupant got out of the disabled car in an attempt to cross the ramp.

While doing so, the male, identified as 30-year-old Harry Maurent of Austell, was struck by what investigators believe was a light colored mid-size pickup or sport utility vehicle.

After being struck by the first hit-and-run vehicle, the victim was struck by three other vehicles while he was down in the roadway. All three of those drivers stopped and cooperated with investigators.
