Cobb Police Still Searching for Shooter of Officer in Smyrna

Officer Danny Rogers was shot near the Concord Chase Apartments in July. His assailant has eluded capture.

A billboard asking for the public's help to identify the person who shot a Cobb County police officer is the latest tactic authorities are using to try to bring the suspect to justice.

Clear Channel, who owns the billboard at South Cobb Drive and Cranfill Road, has donated the placard at no cost for use in spreading the word about the manhunt. Robert Spratlin, owner of Marietta's Spratco LLC, has donated the advertisement itself.

On July 12 at 1:15 a.m., Officer Danny Rogers was shot in the chest by an unknown person in the vicinity of the Concord Chase Apartments. Rogers was wearing a bulletproof vest and has since recovered from his injury.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 19-21 years old. He was wearing a white T-shirt and khaki pants at the time of the shooting. He had short hair worn in twists.

There is a combined $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter; the National Police Defense Foundation has posted a $10,000 reward, and Atlanta Crime Stoppers is supplying the remaining $5,000.

If you have any information that would be useful to the authorities regarding the shooting of Officer Rogers, please call (770) 499-3945 or 404-577-TIPS.
