Crime Briefs: Suspected Gang Member Arrested, Man Charges Officer

These crimes took place in the Smyrna-Vinings area at the end of last month.

Suspected Gang Member Arrested

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that a 17-year-old was arrested at a Campbell High School varsity football game after he refused to leave the area.

The MDJ says that Dandre Andrews, a suspected gang member, was asked to leave the game by an off-duty Smyrna police officer who was working the game on behalf of the Cobb Board of Education. Andrews was given a criminal trespassing warrant but loitered at the game for a few minutes afterwards.

The officer then arrested Andrews, but the arrest warrant obtained by the MDJ reports that he was uncooperative. The warrant says the officer had to use "pain compliance techniques" to subdue the young man.

Andrews is facing charges of misdemeanor criminal trespassing and misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Man Charges Officer

A Canton man is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Facility after he allegedly charged at a detention officer at the Smyrna Police Department.

20-year-old Darrius Marquis Jones faces misdemeanor simple battery and felony riot in a penal institution charges after the Oct. 29 incident.

According to the warrant obtained by the Marietta Daily Journal, Jones had to be held back by several detention personnel to keep him from assaulting another person. The warrant also states that Jones bumped into a woman's stomach on purpose because he was angry.
