Deadline for Fire Chief Applications is Looming

Almost four dozen candidates from around the country have sent in resumes and cover letters hoping to be the next fire chief and emergency management director for the City of Smyrna.

If you are interested in becoming Smyrna's next fire chief and emergency management director, you had better get your resume sent in quickly.

The deadline to apply for the position is Friday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. According to Smyrna Human Resources Director Kay Bolick, 43 people have submitted applications for consideration so far. Acting Fire Chief Roy Acree is among the 43 applicants.

Bolick confirmed to Patch that the search has been opened to national candidates.Β

The search was necessitated by the Sept. 10 resignation of Fire Chief Jason Lanyon, who was the subject of an internal investigation regarding alleged violations of city policy.

According to the job posting on the city's website, the new fire chief and emergency management director will be responsible for 76 firefighters protecting a population of 51,000 residents and manage the department's $4.8 million budget.
