Detectives Claim $100 Bills Led Up to Doc's Shooting

The alleged killer of Ebone Driskell may have been trying to rob her boyfriend after he showed off a large amount of money inside Doc's.

Detectives claim that the boyfriend of a woman who was shot and killed outside a Smyrna restaurant in October may have inadvertently drawn the killer's attention.

During Tuesday's testimony in pretrial motions for Isadore "Izzy" Barboza, accused of killing Ebone Driskell outside Doc's Food and Spirits on Oct. 28, Cobb County detectives said that Barboza and a friend were drawn to Driskell's boyfriend, who had been flashing large sums of money at the bar.

WSB-TV reports that Barboza was in need of money and was planning to rob someone that night, and found his mark when Driskell's boyfriend began showing off $100 bills.

Barboza and his friend Quondre Bentley followed Driskell and her boyfriend out into the parking lot with the intent to rob them, but got an unwelcome surprise when Driskell pulled out a pistol from her purse to defend herself.

Detective Ron Waddell said on the stand that Driskell fired one shot at Bentley, who eventually died from the wound.

Barboza is then accused of shooting and killing Driskell, throwing her out of her car, and fleeing the scene in the stolen automobile with Bentley dying in the passenger seat.

Barboza was arrested for his part in the robbery on Nov. 2, and has been charged with murder and armed robbery.

Barboza's trial has yet to begin, but he is being held in the Cobb Adult Detention Center without bond.
