Original Story

A father and son were taken to separate metro area hospitals after being rescued from the Chattahoochee River on Sunday evening in Cobb County.

The man, reported to be in his 20s and the boy, 6, were part of a larger group, who told Cobb County Swift Water team the youngster had been separated from the group and the father went in to retrieve him.

The team rescued the father, who was not breathing, from the water and performed CPR. It is not known at this time his current condition. The boy was located down the river with another group and was unharmed and alert according to the news outlet.

Because he had ingested some river water, the boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite as a precaution. The father was taken to Emory Adventist Hospital in Smyrna.

This is a developing story and check back with Patch for updates.

The incident came two weeks after a Stone Mountain man drowned in the Chattahoochee River near the Sandy Point National Recreation Area near Akers Drive.
