Gun Fired Accidentally During Investigation at Smyrna Walgreens

No injuries or property damage resulted from the incident.

Police report that a man’s gun accidentally fired while he was being investigated by police at a Smyrna Walgreen’s. No one was injured and there was no property damage as a result of the gunshot.

Smyrna’s Public Information Officer Michael Smith said police responded to a 911 call at the drugstore located at 2670 Cobb Parkway at around 10 p.m. Wednesday. The caller said an elderly man was acting strangely inside the store. Initial reports say that the man was irate and claimed to be armed.

The officer on the scene confirmed that the man had a firearm and ordered him to the ground. In doing so his gun accidentally discharged. While no one was injured by the gunfire, the subject was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation for a pre-existing condition.

Police are not identifying the subject at this time pending further investigation. Charges have not yet been determined.

Maybe the police ordered the man on the ground outside of the building? It doesn't specify whether the man was still inside the store or not when the police arrived. I'll bet the elderly gun-toter was angry about not being able to get the prescription he clearly needed.
