Man Killed at South Cobb Drive Area Bar

A fight at the bar located just north of Smyrna likely led to the fatal shooting, say Cobb County police, who quickly made an arrest in the case.

A Marietta man was shot dead at a bar late Saturday night, and another Cobb County man sits in jail on a murder charge.

Investigators believe that a fight between the men led to the fatal shooting at at 1679 Joyner Ave., spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said in a news release. The establishment is located off South Cobb Drive just north of the Smyrna city limits.

Jose Alvarez, 31, was shot about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Pierce said, and the man believed to be the killer drove away with a woman in a blue-and-white 1983 Ford pickup truck.

Such a truck was spotted about 4 a.m. at a home on Curtis Road, about three miles southwest of Marietta, and the Cobb SWAT team was called in.

Christopher Brian Stewart, 45, was arrested without trouble, Pierce said. The woman with him was unharmed.
