Man Arrested in Akers Mill Fraud Case

Wesley Golden of Stone Mountain is being held in the Cobb County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

A Stone Mountain man was one of two men arrested last weekend on charges of forgery in the first degree and financial transaction card fraud.

Wesley Golden in December 2010 allegedly gave his Bank of America debit card and PIN to an unidentified man so that he could deposit a $33,000 counterfeit check into Golden's account, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

After the man deposited the check at the Bank of America ATM at 3057 Akers Mill Rd., Golden allegedly withdrew $12,223.60 in cash and money orders from his account, records show.

"Said check was returned as a forged check from the State Employee Credit Union," authorities wrote in the warrant. "No such check was ever legally issued."

Golden, who was arrested Saturday, is being held in the Cobb County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond, according to online jail records. A Villa Rica man accused of participating in a similar scheme was arrested this weekend, too.
