Marietta Man Arrested For Concord Road Copper Thefts

The thief used the money he received from stealing copper to support his drug habit, documents say.

A Marietta man is behind bars at the Cobb County Adult Detention Facility after being arrest in connection to several copper thefts along a busy commercial road in Smyrna.

Steven McCall was arrested on Oct. 14 after someone was reported to be stealing copper piping from an office building along Concord Road, reports the Marietta Daily Journal.

According to documents obtained by the MDJ, McCall would allegedly remove the copper from a building, load his loot into a taxi cab, sell his ill-gotten gains at a scrapyard and receive a check, then head to a gas station to cash the check.

Those same documents say that McCall confessed when confronted with evidence of his crimes, and said the thefts were necessary to support his $50 a day drug habit. He was carrying hypodermic syringes filled with heroin when he was arrested, documents say.

McCall has been charged with two counts of felony burglary, felony possession of Schedule I controlled substances, and misdemeanor possession and use of a drug-related object. His bond has been set at $25,000
