Marietta Teen Accused of Rape at Campbell

Police say the attack occurred during a basketball game Feb. 16.

A 15-year-old student is being charged as an adult with raping a 14-year-old girl at on Feb. 16.

WSB-TV first reported this week’s arrest of Chandler Brookins, based on a warrant dated Monday. Brookins is the son of the associate principal at Marietta High, Ron Brookins.

The Marietta freshman reportedly was at Campbell to watch his brother play basketball. Tyler Brookins, a senior at , played his last high school game that night when the Mustangs lost to Campbell in the Region 4-AAAAA tournament quarterfinals.

The girl told police she was forced into a bathroom and raped. WSB reported that the victim does not attend Campbell.

Chandler Brookins is charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery and false imprisonment, according to the Marietta Daily Journal, which said the teen was jailed for about an hour Tuesday before being released on $50,000 bond.

His attorney, Vic Reynolds, proclaimed the boy’s innocence and told the MDJ he will try to get the case moved to juvenile court.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the warrant says Brookins threw the girl to the bathroom floor, pinned her down and repeatedly assaulted her.

The AJC said Brookins is a member of the Marietta High baseball team, although he doesn’t appear on the roster for the varsity or junior varsity. His brother does play baseball for Kennesaw Mountain.

The basketball game was staffed by five officers according to Jay Dillon, the Director of Communications for the Cobb County School District. Dillon told Patch that three of those officers were from the district’s Office of Public Safety and two were Cobb County sheriff deputies.

According to Dillon, the officers were assigned to monitor the basketball game and the crowd in the gym, but were not responsible to patrol the school grounds or hallways.
