Pedestrian killed in Smyrna

Marietta man was attempting to cross Windy Hill Road near Benson Poole Road; charges not expected to be filed.

Police continue to investigate a pedestrian fatality that occurred late Friday night near the intersection of Windy Hill and Benson Poole Roads in Smyrna.

According to investigators from the Cobb Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, at approximately 11:12 p.m., 25-year-old Ralph Smith was attempting to cross Windy Hill just north of the crosswalk and against the pedestrian control device.

The Marietta man was crossing from the south side to the north side when he was struck by a blue 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 series pickup truck driven by Abraham Samaniego-Castor of Powder Springs.

Smith was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, and died as a result of his serious injuries on Sunday. Samaniego-Castor, 36, was not injured and is not expected to be charged according to Cobb police.
